2008 Information | Judging
How are entries judged and what is the prize money?
Entries into Bridgwater Carnival 2008 will enter in one of the classes below. Winning your class is more important to most than the prize money on offer, taking part is what it is all about. The winners in each class have a perpetual cup or trophy to hold for a year. In addition entries in classes 1 - 13 are eligible for the Somerset County Guy Fawkes Association Cups.

The classes are judged by judges appointed by the Carnival Committee each year, to ensure the job is done properly and to avoid the judges being lynched after the results have been announced; we have a minimum of six judges judging each class (classes 12 & 13 have three) and a further twelve judges judging the cup classes, a total of 72 judges for 2007, all volunteers to whom the Carnival Committee are very grateful for their help. Judges are issued guidelines to ensure there is compatibility in the way entries are judged. |

The aspects they are asked to point vary depending on the class but cover Cart Build Up, Presentation & General Effect, Musical Appropriateness, Life & Movement or Stillness, Lighting, Costume & Make Up, Comedy Content, Originality & Entertainment Value. A daunting task for anybody as the procession is moving all the time you are judging and with the larger entries there is a lot to take in as the entries in the main are all new to the judges on Carnival day. |
