Local Talent to appear at Carnival Concerts

March 2008

Kate and Poppy

Local talented entertainers were auditioned on Tuesday 25 March to provide the 13 front of curtain acts required for the 2008 carnival concerts.

The purpose of the front of curtain acts is to entertain the audience in between the performances by the 13 Bridgwater carnival clubs and two dance troupes.

The auditions were well supported with 33 acts competing for 13 places, with 55 members of the carnival committee and judges voting. After a hard fought competition the top placed 13 were selected with many excellent acts not gaining a place.

The acts selected this year were in no particular order:

(Single vocalists) Ben Filler, Steven Banks, Paul Diamond & Peter Collington. (Comedy) Steven Lukins. (Duo's) Tiger & Rosemary, Oliver Healey & Richard Murray, Darren Oxman & Craig Andrew & Kate & Poppy (2007 winners pictured above). (Trio) Inspired. (Vocal/Musician) Aaron Robinson. (Dance) Viva La Diva. (Song/Dance) Puriton Panto Players.

Bridgwater Carnival Committee are grateful to all the acts that took part in the auditions and hope that even if they did not get a place this year they will come back to the auditions on the 24 March 2009 and try again next year.

The carnival concerts this year start on Monday 29 September and run until Saturday 11 October, tickets will be available from our online shop from 1st May.

At the 2007 carnival concerts, Kate and Poppy, pictured above receiving their cups, two 14 year old girls from Nether Stowey scooped three front of curtain awards for their renditions of The Prayer and Flower Duet, and Dannielle Redman won the best single vocalist category after performing two Queen songs.
