Carnival Concerts set to Entertain Bridgwater
September 2010
With just under three weeks to the curtain raises for the first time on the 2010 Bridgwater Guy Fawkes carnival concerts, the talented performers are putting the finishing touches to their glittering stage sets.
The popular concerts, which have been a regular feature in Bridgwater since 1883, start on Monday 4 October and run until Saturday 16 October. The show is expected to be seen by over 3,500 people during the fortnight, who will witness a cast of over 600 entertainers from 13 carnival clubs, dance troupes and front of curtain acts, provide four hours of first class entertainment.
Once again Gerber Juice Company Ltd is the event’s main sponsor, with Somerset Car Sales sponsoring the tickets and Bridgwater Times the sponsor of the official souvenir programmes.
For the first time in the history of the carnival concerts, the auditions for the front of curtain acts were sponsored. David Loveridge, Bridgwater North county councillor, pledged his support to the event which was held in March, where 25 hopeful acts competed for one of the 13 front of curtain spots. On the night David and his wife, Shirley, were asked to help judge the auditions. He said: “We were extremely impressed with the standard of the acts, and it is so rewarding to see that we have so much talent in Bridgwater and the surrounding area.
“Bridgwater Carnival and its associated activities play a huge role in local community life, and I can’t wait now for the show to begin.”
Dave Stokes, publicity officer for Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival, added: “We are truly grateful for the support we receive from our sponsors. If we didn’t have their continued backing, then our carnival concerts and procession, would not be as successful as they are.”
