The Bridgwater Carnival 2009 celebrations will start with a bang on Guy Fawkes Day, with the Bridgwater Carnival Grand Fireworks Display.

Sponsored by Bridgwater Town Council for the fourth consecutive year, the curtain raiser event will take place on Thursday 5 November at St Matthew’s Field, and will start promptly at 7pm.

Seen as the launch to the Bridgwater Carnival spectacular weekend, the glittering fireworks display has proved popular in the past with spectators and has been well supported by people in and around the Sedgemoor area.

Bridgwater Town Council councillor, Gill Slocombe, said: “The carnival celebrations show Bridgwater at its very best, and the town council are happy to sponsor the fireworks display once again.

“Carnival attracts many people into the town and brings much business to the local economy, and it is an event we are all extremely proud of.”

Dave Stokes, publicity officer for Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival, added: “It is terrific news that Bridgwater Town Council is once again sponsoring this year’s fireworks display, and it will get the town in the mood for what is to come the following night.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Bridgwater Town Council for their generosity, because if it wasn’t for the help we receive from local organisations and companies, our carnival would not be as popular as it is.”

Car parking for the event is available at St Matthew’s Field for £3 per car, and the proceeds raised will go towards the Bridgwater Carnival charity. No peddlers will be allowed into the field during the event.
