Carnival Painting Goes On Public Display

An oil painting depicting the town’s squibber statue in virtual silhouette on carnival night is now on display in Angel Place Shopping Centre.
The spectacular painting titled ‘The Master of Ceremonies’ and produced by Irish based artist, Angela Gawn, has been kindly donated to Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival Committee and is now hanging on the wall of Shauls Bakery in the town’s shopping centre.
The framed picture (40 inches by 28 inches) is the follow up to last year’s ‘First Night Out’ painting and is the second of a carnival series being produced by the carnival loving artist, who has kindly donated the copyright to the carnival committee. The first picture can be seen in the foyer of the Bridgwater Library.
Roger Smith, Angel Place Shopping Centre manager, said: “It truly is a remarkable piece of art, and we are very privileged to be able to display the painting for all visitors into the town to see.
“Annually we have over four million people passing through Angel Place Shopping Centre, and the painting will be a reminder to everyone throughout the year of the town’s carnival tradition.”
Doug Robson, president of Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival Committee, added: “The painting is wonderful, and I would like to thank Angela for what she has done. It really does sum up the magical atmosphere in the town on carnival night.”
With the help of Peter J Nicholls Photography, limited editions of the painting are available to buy. Framed copies (12 inches by 10 inches) cost £20, unframed copies cost £15 and canvas prints (20 inches x 16 inches) cost £50, collection prices only, and are available from the online shop at Bridgwater Carnival’s official website.
