Spirit of Carnival statuette presented to the Museum
October 2006
A miniature version of the ‘Bridgwater Squibber’ statue is to go on display with other items representing Bridgwater’s history at the Admiral Blake Museum.
At a specially arranged ceremony on Friday 27 October 2006 at the museum, Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival Committee’s president and chairman, Chris Hocking and Dave Patten respectively, presented a 15 inch cold cast bronze statuette to Jessica Vale, Museums Officer, Sedgemoor District Council.
The statuette was commissioned by Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival Committee to commemorate the official unveiling of the ‘Bridgwater Squibber’ statue on The Cornhill in October 2005, and since then over 150 have been sold to Carnival enthusiasts throughout the country.
Dave Patten, said: “It gives us great pleasure to present the museum with a statuette, as it represents the history and evolution of the Gunpowder Plot celebrations in Bridgwater.
It is important that in years to come the future people of Bridgwater do not forget the roots of our carnival, and by displaying a statuette in the museum, we hope that visitors to the town in the forthcoming years will appreciate the origins or our wonderful tradition.
The statuette, like the ‘Bridgwater Squibber’ in the town centre, was sculptured by Dave Faulks, and is proving very popular. Earlier this week one was presented to the Mayor of Marsa in Malta by the Mayor of Bridgwater, Councillor Pat Parker. The two towns are twinned.
The miniature 15 inch cold cast bronze statuette has been commissioned as a souvenir and produced by Copratec Mouldings.
The statuettes are on sale at £49.99 each plus £10 postage & packing. Local collection or delivery can be arranged free of charge. Paid orders from outside the town can be put aside and collected on Carnival day or before if you wish to save the postage.
Profits from the sale of these miniatures will go to Carnival funds.
If you would like to place an order please either send a cheque to Bridgwater Carnival, 49 Alfoxton Road, Bridgwater TA6 7NN or pay by card on 01278 421795.
