‘COME AND MEET US’ INVITE FROM BRIDGWATER GUY FAWKES CARNIVAL
Every year hundreds of people give a little time in Bridgwater to help stage what is probably the biggest illuminated carnival in Europe and coming soon is a chance to join the band of volunteers who help create this outstanding event.
A ‘drop-in’ Open Day is being held at the Carnival Centre, High Street, Bridgwater, on Sunday 13 July from 11am until 3pm. Members of the organising committee (all volunteers!) will be on hand to explain the many ways helpers can be involved on Carnival Day which this year is Saturday 1 November.
Jonathan Walter, Bridgwater Carnival’s collection officer says a little help from a lot of people goes a very long way. “We need more than a thousand helpers on carnival day to ensure all goes smoothly and that lots of money is raised for local charities and good causes.”
There are many roles for volunteer helpers including marshals, grandstand stewards, car park attendants, collectors, programme and souvenir sellers, drivers, and traffic management assistants.
“Our drop-in Open Day is a chance for local charities, other good causes, community groups, sports clubs, businesses and individuals to find out how they can help carnival and, importantly, how carnival can help them. Carnival brings in tens of thousands of pounds every year for fundraisers. It will also be an opportunity for prospective newcomers to talk to some old hands about the whole process, what is involved and the fun that can be had, said Jonathan.”
For more information on how to become involved, the doors of the Carnival Centre will be open between 11am and 3pm on Sunday 13 July – just pop in for a chat, a coffee and a cake. Alternatively, contact Jonathan on collection@bridgwatercarnival.ord.uk / 07808 988182.
