Carnival Workshops

Come and have a go – Carnival Skills Workshops

Bridgwater Carnival is keen for carnivalites to obtain new skills and with the support of the Arts Council who have funded the workshops in the past we hope to arrange some workshops in 2022, funding dependant.

The workshops are organised as a series of carnival ‘taster’ workshops at Bridgwater College when anyone, whether or not they’re involved in carnival, can have a go at developing their skills. Each workshop will be led by college tutors or experienced carnivalites who will pass on their knowledge and expertise.  In addition members of both Luton International and Notting Hill carnivals who designs and constructs amazing costumes have in the past shared their skills using techniques and materials which will be new to many.

There was no charge for taking part so you have nothing to lose and everything to gain!

Daily Workshops that have been available in earlier years include:

  • ‘Caribbean’ costumes & back packs
  • Headdresses & Headwear
  • Costume (Design)
  • Costume (Construction)
  • Stage Make-up
  • Stage Sets (Design)
  • Stage Sets (Construction)
  • Set Painting & Spray Painting
  • Welding
  • Model Making & Fibre Glassing
  • Lighting
  • Sound
  • Choreography & Dance
  • Hair Design
  • Samba Drumming

Supported by funding from the Arts Council England

Supported by PRS for Music

PRS for Music licences the use of copyright music across the UK, giving businesses and organisations the legal permission they need to play the music they want.

These licences ensure that music publishers, songwriters and composers are fairly rewarded with royalties so they can keep making music – and mean that we’re able to support music at events like this.

For more information about PRS for Music or music licensing, visit or call 0800 068 4828
