National pub chain and new owners of The Duke pub in Bridgwater’s High Street have just confirmed their sponsorship of Bridgwater Carnival 2019.
Amber Taverns, a growing North West based company who owns over 140 pubs across the UK, are partnering up with Bridgwater Carnival as the countdown to the reopening of the newly refurbished The Duke Pub on Friday 1 November gathers pace.
The company, whose purchase of The Duke is their first venture into the Somerset market, is set to sponsor the glittering squibbing display which will take place after the carnival procession on Saturday 2 November, and which will bring the town’s 2019 carnival celebrations to an end for another year.
Gary Roberts, Operations Director from Amber Taverns, said: “As a new company to Bridgwater we are delighted to support the Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival and become involved in the local community, and we wish the carnival every success.
“With The Duke, Amber Taverns will be offering a unique customer experience for everyone who visits, and as the pub is opening the day before the carnival, we are really hoping for a bumper weekend, both for the carnival celebrations and for the pub.”
2019 marks the 303rd year since the first recorded evidence of squibbing in Bridgwater.
Mike Crocker, president of Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival Committee, added: “We are so thrilled that Amber Taverns have agreed to pledge their support to the carnival celebrations, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their support and kindness and wish them every success for their big opening.
“Every year the carnival procession and the squibbing display gets bigger and more impressive and if it wasn’t for the generosity of companies such as Amber Taverns, then our carnival would not be as popular as it is.”
