Bridgwater Gangs & Features Donate £1200 to Local Nursing Home
Bridgwater Gangs and Features carnival clubs have donated £1,205 to the town’s Avalon Nursing Home Residents Fund following the 2024 Old Folks Shows.
The money was raised following donations made to collections by the audiences during the three night show held back in March at Bridgwater Town Hall.
Arthur Leigh, the president for Bridgwater Gangs and Features, said: “The 2024 performances were extra special for us as were celebrating the 60 th anniversary of the Old Folks Show, and I am delighted we could raise so much money for the residents of Avalon Nursing Home”.
“Organising shows like this takes a lot of work from many people and it makes it so worthwhile when we can give something back, and I would like to thank every senior citizen who donated to the collections this year.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the many businesses, organisations and individuals who donated raffle prizes for the shows. We really do appreciate and value their continued support and generosity.”
The Old Folks Show is organised by Bridgwater Gangs and Features, and is free for the over 60s. The purpose of the show is to thank local pensioners for their continued help and support and to recognise those who have kept the carnival spirit alive over the years.
Even though the show is less serious than the prestigious carnival concerts in terms of content and stage setting, the standards of singing and choreography are very similar.
Local carnivalites also help with the stewarding, sound, lighting, compering, backstage arrangements and refreshments at the show under the leadership of concert organiser Wayne Anker.
The Avalon Nursing Home Residents Fund provide events and activities for those who live in the Bridgwater based home, which is operated by Camelot Care.
Collections have been made at the Old Folk Shows since 2014, and since then and excluding the Covid years, over £10,600 has been raised for good causes and local charities
Next year’s Old Folks Show is taking place between Thursday 20 March 2025 and Saturday 22 March 2025 at Bridgwater Town Hall.
Ticket information will be released in January 2025.
