Bridgwater Carnival organisers rounded off the 2013 carnival year by donating complimentary souvenir DVDs of this year’s spectacular procession to local nursing and retirement homes.
At a specially arranged visit to Oak Trees residential care home, Rita Jones, president of Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival Committee, was joined by fellow committee members, Dave Croker and Janet Croker, and Arthur Leigh, president of Bridgwater gangs and features, and officially presented the DVDs to residents at the Rhode Lane based house. The souvenirs will also be shared amongst the residents of Milton House, Bridgwater Hospital, Broadway House, Gibb House, Chatham House, Rosary Nursing Home, Sydenham House and Hilda Coles retirement homes.
Dave Stokes, publicity officer for Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival Committee, said: “We are extremely conscious every year there are many people who would love to watch the carnival, but for a number of reasons are unable to do so.
“So it makes perfect sense to take the carnival into the homes of the public, to enable them to see for themselves the fantastic entries which give Bridgwater Carnival the reputation of being one of the largest illuminated processions in the world.”
Bridgwater Carnival 2013 DVDs are still available to purchase online at www.bridgwatercarnival.org.uk, carnival club members, the carnival centre, or Dave Croker on 01278 421795. DVDs cost £15 (excluding postage and packing).
2013 saw the 32nd anniversary of the filming of the Bridgwater Carnival video / DVD, and the popular souvenir features Bridgwater carnivalites, Chris Hocking and Paul Savage, providing the commentary, humour, wit, facts and insights into all of the entries at Bridgwater Carnival 2013.
Somerset based, Mendip Media, filmed and produced the DVD, which was filmed in Widescreen format and it features clips from the daytime entertainment, the whole procession and the squibbing display. It lasts for approximately 1¾ hours.
