Bridgwater Carnival is set to light up the streets of one of England’s most famous cities by taking part in Bath Carnival on Saturday 16 August.
The official Guy Fawkes Cart, which traditionally leads the Bridgwater Carnival procession held annually on the first Saturday in November, will join the other 14 entries in Bath’s big parade.
Containing over 900 low energy light bulbs, the flag ship cart pays tribute to the evolution of the Bridgwater Carnival celebrations from the origins of The Gunpower Plot right through to the spectacular procession we know and love today, and is now regarded by many as one of the largest illuminated processions in the world. The cart will have a cast of 12 performers on the night, courtesy of Sally Williams Dancers, Bridgwater, and they will be joining in the carnival celebrations with their choreographed dance.
Bath Carnival 2014 will take place at Sydney Gardens between 11am and 10pm, and will offer an exciting programme of dance performances, workshops and live music for all to enjoy. The carnival procession will start at 6:30pm from Great Pulteney Street.
Dave Stokes, publicity officer for Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival, said: “Developing partnerships and working with other carnival organisers throughout the country helps us to share ideas and learn from each other so we can ensure our carnivals continue for future generations to enjoy.”
“We are very excited and proud about taking part in this year’s Bath Carnival, and it will give us another opportunity to promote Bridgwater Carnival to a whole new audience. We hope the organisers have a safe and successful event.”
Robbie Verrecchia, project coordinator for Bath Carnival added: “It’s wonderful to have Bridgwater Carnival involved in our event this year and we would like thank them for travelling all this way. We are really hoping this year’s Bath Carnival is our biggest and best one yet.”
As part of the partnership, which has been formed by the two carnival committees, the Bath Samba Band will also be taking part in Bridgwater Carnival on Saturday 1 November 2014.
