Dave Creedy was elected for a three-year term at the BGFC’s Annual General Meeting. He has been a dedicated carnival supporter since he first appeared in the parade as a young lad and was born into the carnival family – his father Walt was a co-founder of Vagabonds CC in 1947. Walt was also a long-standing committee member, many of them as Treasurer and life member.
Dave’s carnival debut was on the Hope Inn CC feature cart Dantes Inferno in 1968. He was hidden on the cart to move the devil’s head and provide puffs of smoke by breaking up firework bangers and pouring the powder into a fire pit!
And his early carnival association with gunpowder was to continue. For several years he led the parade as Guy Fawkes on our official tableaux, and for more than a decade and a half has been the Squibbing Officer.
Dave joined Wills CC in 1979, where he is now a life member and still taking part in both the stage show and on cart around the carnival circuit.
In 2011 he became an associate member of the BGFC committee and was elected a full member the following year. He has served as both Vice-Chairman and Chairman.
As President Dave, intends to remain an active member of Wills CC and will continue his role as Squibbing Officer. Looking ahead he will continue to advocate committee openness and transparency, seek continued closer ties with the Bridgwater Gangs and Features Clubs, encourage more people to join the committee and continue to fund raise for the benefit of local clubs and charities.
‘I’m always open to new ideas that follow a path to the continuing success of Bridgwater Carnival,” said Dave.
He has also thanked outgoing President Dave Croker who stood down at the end of last year for personal reasons. ‘Dave deserves much credit for all the time and hard work he has given the committee over very many years”.
