SANTA’S BOOST FOR LOCAL CHARITIES
Bridgwater charities have benefitted from a seasonal rush of goodwill.
The Christmas Sleigh collection organised by the Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival Committee raised a whopping £4,412.
For a fortnight in the lead up to Christmas, the sleigh toured the town, including stopoffs at local supermarkets Morrisons and Asda. Santa was delighted to receive donations to be shared by participating charities and carnival clubs.
Bridgwater Operatic Society, Bridgwater Rotary, Cancer Research UK and Talking Pages have this week received between them just under £2,000.
The remainder went into club coffers for onward distribution to the charities they support and to help build their amazing carts for the Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival which, this year, starts at 6pm on Saturday 1 November.
The clubs taking part in the sleigh run were Lime Kiln CC, Cavaliers CC, Crusaders CC, Marketeers CC, Marina Sydenham CC and Westonzoyland CC. Some other clubs made their own Santa runs.
Carnival Committee life member Mark Robson, who organised the collection, said:
‘The generosity of Bridgwater people never fails to amaze me. It was a heartwarming response and a welcome winter boost for the participating clubs and charities.
Many thanks to Morrison’s and Asda who welcomed our collectors outside their stores and to the people who made donations as we toured the streets of Bridgwater.’
