HINKLEY POINT C CONFIMED AS MAIN EVENT SPONSOR FOR 2023 BRIDGWATER GUY FAWKES CARNIVAL
One of Europe’s largest construction projects has teamed up with the UK’s oldest carnival in a unique community partnership.
For the second successive year, the Hinkley Point C project has been confirmed as the main event sponsor for the annual Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival, which takes place this year on Saturday 4 November.
Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival is one of Europe’s largest illuminated carnivals, and attracts tens of thousands of people into the historic Somerset market town every November.
Mike Crocker, President for Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival, said: “Community events such as our carnival rely very heavily on the backing and support we receive from the local business sector, and if it wasn’t for this, our carnival would not be as popular or successful as it is.
“We really do appreciate the generosity and kindness of EDF and Hinkley Point C, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for becoming our main event sponsor for 2023.”
Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival triumphantly returned to the streets of Bridgwater in 2022 following a two year enforced pandemic related hiatus. The event raised over £30,100 for local charities and attracted one of the biggest crowds in the carnival’s long and esteemed history, and organisers are hoping for a similar successful event this year.
Mike added: “We are really excited about this year’s carnival celebrations, and I have a feeling Bridgwater Carnival 2023 is going to be the best one yet.”
Hinkley Point C, currently under construction in Somerset, is the first nuclear power station to be built in the UK for more than 30 years. It will supply reliable, low-carbon electricity to power around 6 million homes for 60 years. The project is vital in the fight against climate change but is also making a positive difference to people and businesses from across the region. The benefits range from increasing local employment and creating a sustainable regional supply chain, to investing in new training facilities. Rob Jordan, Hinkley Point C’s Delivery Director, said: “We know how much the Bridgwater Carnival means to Somerset and we’re thrilled to be supporting it for the second year in a row.”
Preparations for this year’s carnival celebrations are beginning to gather pace. Grandstand tickets for the popular carnival procession cost £28, and are available from the event’s official website and from the Carnival Centre, High Street, Bridgwater.
Also the prestigious carnival concerts return to the Bridgwater Town Hall stage in October. Tickets for the 2023 show, which takes place between Monday 2 October and Saturday 14 October, are again available from the event’s official website and from the Carnival Centre. Ticket prices range between £13.50 and £18.
