A prestigious panel recently had the unenviable task of choosing the overall winners of Bridgwater Carnival’s ‘build a model carnival cart’ and ‘decorate a mask’ children’s competitions.
A total of 168 model carnival carts and 26 decorated masks were entered and judged at a special ceremony at Bridgwater Town Hall last week.
The judging panel consisted of Rita Jones, president of Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival, Steve Austen, mayor of Bridgwater, Alan Hurford, Bridgwater Town Council Clerk, BBC Somerset’s Emma Britton, Ron and Donna Schroder from Hinkley Point A, Cavendish Fluor and Andy McLean, chairman of Gremlins CC.
After much deliberation, the judges decided on the following winners:-
Model carnival cart winners:
1st – Holly Jenkins, Woolavington Village Primary School
2nd – Harvey Baker, St John and St Francis Primary School
3rd – Beth Ridgley, North Newton Primary School
Decorated mask winners:
1st – Puriton School
2nd – Somerset Bridge
3rd – Bridgwater College Academy
Rita Jones, said: “So much time and effort has gone into every single entry – it was such a difficult task to choose a winner.”
Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival’s work with local schools has been made possible by the kind support received by Arts Council England and Hinkley Point A, Cavendish Fluor.
