APPLICATION WINDOW FOR ENTERING THE 2024 SOMERSET COUNTY GUY FAWKES CARNIVALS OPENS TODAY (THURSDAY 1 AUGUST)
The application window to take part in the prestigious 2024 Somerset County Guy Fawkes
Carnival processions opens today, Thursday 1 August 2024.
Potential entrants can now apply by completing a simple online electronic entry form,
available from both the official Somerset County Guy Fawkes Carnivals Association
(SCGFCA) website (www.somersetcountycarnivals.com) and the Bridgwater Guy Fawkes
Carnival website (www.bridgwatercarnival.org.uk).
At a click of a button, the standardised entry form enables entrants to register to participate
in the eight affiliated county carnivals – Bridgwater, Burnham on Sea, Weston Super Mare,
North Petherton, Midsomer Norton, Shepton Mallet, Wells and Glastonbury.
Staged annually in November, an estimated 400,000 people watched the successful 2023
carnivals. In the past two years, over £210,000 has been raised from the town street
collections and shared between good causes, local charities, and the towns themselves to
help keep their respective carnivals going year after year.
David Churches, secretary of SCGFCA, said: “The Somerset Guy Fawkes Carnivals are
the best illuminated processions in the world, and we should be very proud our county is
home to them.
“Every year, people travel from all over the country to see our carnivals, and every year
the standard of entries gets better and better. I am sure the carnival committees and
entrants will be absolutely determined to put on a special show again for 2024, and I
cannot wait for them to begin”
The 2024 Somerset County Guy Fawkes Carnivals will take place on the following dates:
Bridgwater – Saturday 2 November, 6pm start
Burnham on Sea – Monday 4 November, 7.30pm start
SOMERSET COUNTY GUY FAWKES CARNIVALS ASSOCIATION
Weston Super Mare – Friday 8 November, 7pm start
North Petherton – Saturday 9 November, 7pm start
Shepton Mallet – Wednesday 13 November, 7.30pm start
Wells – Friday 15 November, 7pm start
Glastonbury – Saturday 16 November, 6.45pm start
Midsomer Norton (associate) – Monday 11 November, 7.30pm start
The closing date for applying to take part in the carnivals is Sunday 1 September, and
those who are unable to complete an online entry form can still obtain a paper copy by
