With the Somerset carnivals approaching rapidly all carnivals are now looking to attract volunteers to assist with the running of the events.
One very vital part of this exercise is having enough marshals to ensure the carnivals go smoothly with the safety of the crowd at the forefront, meetings are held annually with the Local Authorities and the Emergency Services to ensure this.
For our carnivals to continue in their present form it is vital to attract as many volunteers as possible at all carnivals as costs increase each year, by helping at any of the local carnivals volunteers play a large part in keeping them a free event to be enjoyed by all, when I say free that does not mean the collections which are the main income for many carnivals to fund their event, although even these have not shown any significant increase in recent years so committees are having to diversify and find other ways of raising funds to keep carnival alive.
All the carnivals are run by volunteers and the entries do their own fund raising to build their entries, no one is paid!
So do you come to our carnivals, do you enjoy them, do you want them to continue then what about helping us out so that they can continue in their present form?
This is predominately about marshals but there are many other areas that we need help with so please contact your local carnival committee to see if they need help, even if you are only coming to the carnivals for the day your assistance would be gratefully received.
This year we have devised a marshal registration scheme, enabling volunteers to sign up online and indicate which carnivals they are able to assist, this form covers most of the Somerset Carnivals, for more information see Marshal Registration.
