It’s been all change this year for the UK’s coins and notes. Gone are the round £1 coins, replaced in March by the shiny 12-sided “bimetallic” pounds – which the Royal Mint claims to be “the most secure coin in the world”.
But what can you do with any old ones you may have stashed away in a money box, jam jar or giant whisky bottle as shops could no longer accept these after 15 October? The simple answer is – put them in the carnival collection!
The same can be said for the old cotton paper fivers which went out of circulation on 5 May, replaced by the polymer notes. We can take these off your hands too!
So, old one pound coins, old fivers – and, of course the new versions of both, indeed all coins and notes – all will be gratefully received so that we can be ‘quids in’ this carnival.
This year’s Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival takes place on Saturday 4 November and all proceeds raised on the night go to local charities.
