Gremlins Carnival Club was formed by ex-members of the Royal Air Force in 1947/8, and produced their first entry in 1949. The club was first known as the R.A.F.A Club (Royal Air Force Association), changing its name to Gremlins CC in 1950.
The club’s first entry won the carnival concerts. Not bad for the first attempt! Success on the road took a little longer to achieve. Winning Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival took nearly 25 years to do, and the club did this in 1971 with Carnival Tijuana Style. Since then the club has never looked back, and in the last 30 years the club has won Bridgwater Carnival 24 times.
The club has also been in the top two on the stage at the annual Bridgwater Carnival concerts for the last eleven years (2009 – 2019), and has won the White Hart Cup for taking first place on the stage seven times since 2000.
Since the Gremlins first won Bridgwater Carnival back in 1971, the club has taken part in all 343 county carnivals, winning 153 times (44.6%) and being in the top 3 positions on 264 occasions (77%).
The club has had numerous bases in their 70 year history, but these days build their entries at the Bristol Road site in Bridgwater, with their headquarters being at Bar 27, St Mary Street, Bridgwater – www.bar27.com
