Rehearsals are well underway for the children’s dance parade which will be staged at 2.15pm in the town centre on carnival day.
Nearly 100 children from primary and secondary schools in and around Bridgwater will be taking part. Choreography is under the direction of Amy Wigglesworth (Dance curriculum manager for Performing Arts at Bridgwater College), assisted by some of her students.
The theme this year is Bollywood and the children will be dressed in distinctive, colourful T-shirts. The parade will last for about half an hour starting at Fore Street before parading on to the Cornhill and High Street where it will disperse at the Town Hall.
Malcolm Cattle, Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival President, said: “This is the seventh year that we are staging this dance parade and it allows some of our local youngsters to really get in to the carnival spirit and also learn some choreography and performance skills at the same time. The parade has proven to be very popular in past years and always attracts a large crowd of people enjoying the full carnival day experience.”
