A fun stage show in Bridgwater has resulted in a large donation for charity. The Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Gangs and Features annual Old Folks Show, which is entirely free for anyone aged over 60, was held recently at the Town Hall theatre.
Local carnival clubs and dance troupes team up to perform a wide variety of top-quality entertainment in what is now a much-anticipated annual tradition. Tickets are snaped up within days of release, and this year was no exception. There is even a free nightly raffle!
Although theatregoers are not charged, they can make a charity donation which this year was ALK-Positive Lung Cancer UK. Donations totalled £1,350 and a cheque for that amount has now been handed over. It was received by broadcaster and long-time carnival supporter Emma Britton and her husband John. Emma has been diagnosed with the condition – a relatively rare form of lung cancer caused by a genetic abnormality.
On receiving the cheque Emma said: “A huge heartfelt thank you to Bridgwater Carnival Gangs and Features for nominating ALK-Positive Lung Cancer UK to be the recipient of this years Old Folks Show charity collection. John and I are really humbled that the carnival family have done this for us at what is such a difficult time in our lives. The money raised will really make a difference to ALK Positive patients and their families.”
Producer Wayne Anker said: “We love putting on the show, it’s a bit of fun, and we’re delighted the donations have gone to such a good cause. My special thanks to Lynne Leigh who organises the nightly collections and handover of the proceeds to the charity”.
