Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival is delighted to announce that a major local employer has once again stepped in as the main event sponsor for this year’s parade.
The decision by Hinkley Point C power plant developer, together with one of their main on-site contractors, MEH Alliance, will ensure everyone can enjoy the carnival through live broadcasting of the parade around the world, provision of a big screen for spectators on Cornhill on Carnival Day, souvenir programmes and DVD recordings.
Andrew Cockroft, Head of Stakeholder Engagement and Social Impact at Hinkley Point C, said: “We are extremely pleased to continue our partnership with Somerset’s largest community event that truly brings people and communities together.”
Dave Creedy, President of the Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival, added: “I very much thank HPC for their continuing support and generosity. We are an entirely voluntary organisation which involves thousands of people, young and old. We greatly appreciate our partnerships with the local business sector which helps make our parade one of the largest illuminated carnivals in Europe.”
Carnival club members in Bridgwater and beyond have been working since the end of the last year’s parades to create new entries for this year’s spectacle which takes place on Saturday, 1 November.
The carnival weekend begins on Friday, 31 October with a schools’ lantern parade and spectacular fireworks display at St Matthew’s Field.
Carnival day begins with a packed programme of town centre entertainment which this year is being transformed into a Music and Dance Festival, staged in four separate locations. The festival features youth dance troupes, choirs and individuals performing alongside children’s shows, marching bands, live music and street theatre.
The main parade begins at 6pm and concludes will Bridgwater’s unique squibbing display which has to be seen to be believed!
