Front-of-curtain acts confirmed for Carnival Concerts
The 12 front-of-curtain acts for the Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival autumn concerts at the Town Hall have been confirmed. Among some returning acts, several new faces will be making their debuts.
The line-up was announced after an evening of auditions in front of a 40-strong panel of judges. Each act had five minutes to impress, and the winners were:
Phoebe Weaver, Starstruck, Charlotte Couch, Chantelle Lake, Lianne and Rachel, Fox King Dance Academy, Lianne Vessier, Sammy and Evie, Elysia Harmony, Dulcie Rossiter, The Vixens, Holly Marshall. The reserves are Florence and Evie, Samantha Francis.
It was ladies’ night out! Apart from host Sedgemoor fm’s Bill Bevan there were no male acts on stage, but there was an abundance of gifted performers. In thanking all who took part, Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival Entertainment Director Sarah Humphrey summed up the night as a great show. “Bridgwater certainly has got talent, and I would like to encourage those who sadly didn’t make it this time, to have another go next year.
’For many, the chance to perform in the prestigious fortnight-long run of concerts is a major reward for their hard work and dedication. Fox King Dance Academy Principal Tamzynn Williamson said: ‘We dance every day. This is the ultimate – the chance to dance on stage for two weeks.’
Twelve-year-old vocalist Holly Marshall will be making her concerts debut. ‘I can’t really believe it. I’m so happy I got through. It’s the first time I’ve done this.’
And singer Dulcie Rossiter, who performed last year, was equally ecstatic. ‘’I’m shocked. There were so many good people auditioning tonight. I’m really excited.’
Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival Concerts Co-ordinator Anne Middleton was thrilled with the standard of acts stepping forward for the auditions. ‘The high quality of local talent is a testament to Bridgwater’s carnival tradition and this year performers have once again excelled. The smiles on the faces of the judges made that clear and I thank all the acts for their hard work and determination. They have a big job ahead as the front of curtain performances are what make the concerts a seamless stream of entertainment.’
Tickets for the concerts have been selling fast, but there are plenty available for most of the shows which run from Monday 29 September until Saturday 11 October at the Town Hall. Tickets are available at the Carnival Centre in High Street, Bridgwater – the centre is open Monday to Friday between 9am and 1pm – or online at https://www.bridgwatercarnival.org.uk/carnival-concert-tickets.
