Even though this year’s Old Folks Shows, organised by Bridgwater Carnival Gangs and Features, are still fresh in the memories of those who went, preparations are already in hand for next year.
The organisers are working closely with the team currently refurbishing the Town Hall and dates have been set for the show to be staged on February 26,27 and 28 next year at the Town Hall theatre.
The show is immensely popular and this year all the tickets were snapped up in a matter of days. They are available to everyone over the age of 60 and are entirely free. Gangs and Features President Arthur Leigh says audience members will testify that the shows are a great night out with top quality singing and dancing.
‘I encourage everyone interested in going to keep a note of the dates for next year’s show which, again, are a little earlier than usual to tie in with the work schedules for redevelopment of the Town Hall,’ said Arthur. ‘Tickets are not available yet, but rest assured we will give plenty of notice when they are. We love putting on this show, which is directed by local carnivalite Wayne Anker. Local carnival club members also help with stewarding, sound, lighting, compering, backstage arrangements, first aid and refreshments’.
This year, audience donations raised £1,300 for charity with £1,000 going to Dean Barton Hospital Neurological Ward and £300 to Bridgwater Heather Club.
‘We have received grateful thanks from both charities and know that the monies will be put to good use in supporting the work they do’, said Mr Leigh.
