The Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival weekend celebrations will start with a bang with a ‘Grand Firework Display’ on Friday 1 November.
Sponsored by Bridgwater Town Council and supported by Sedgemoor District Council for the eighth successive year, the curtain raiser event has proved popular in the past with spectators and has been well supported by people in and around the Sedgemoor area.
This year for the first time local school children will also be getting involved with the fun with a special lantern parade before the big display begins. Leading this parade will be a 15 foot effigy of Guy Fawkes, made has been made out of willow by The Somerset Willow Company. It will be ceremoniously lit at the end of the display by Rita Jones, the president of Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival, which will signify the official start to the 2013 carnival celebrations.
The build up to the fireworks display will start at 3pm, as there will be other attractions at St Matthew’s Field to entertain the family, including a handful of fairground rides, kindly provided by the world famous Chipperfield family.
There will be a small charge for parking in St Matthew’s Field, with all proceeds raised going towards the Bridgwater Carnival charity.
