FORMER COUNTY CARNIVAL PRESIDENT AND LIFE MEMBER IS ‘RECOGNISED’ BY CARNIVAL PEERS

One of Somerset County Guy Fawkes Carnival’s former presidents and the current president of Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival Committee has received a special carnival award at the recent Somerset County Guy Fawkes Carnival Association’s (SCGFCA) annual dinner.
Malcolm Cattle, who has been involved with carnival for over 55 year and held the county president position between 2013 and 2015, was presented with the Pam Reed Trophy for services to the Somerset carnivals. This was in recognition for the significant financial contribution he made towards the security costs for the carnival carts during this year’s carnival season, and was the result of the successful Bridgwater Carnival president’s gala night which was held in July 2017.
Christine Puddy, president of SCGFCA, said: “I would like to congratulate Malcolm on winning this special award. Over the years he has been a dedicated ambassador for the Somerset Carnivals and he has put in a tremendous amount of work, and he truly deserves to win the Pam Reed Trophy as a token of our appreciation for his sterling efforts.”
“The original idea of staging the gala night was something Malcolm had wanted to do for many years, and it was his way of thanking the clubs for all of their hard work and efforts. He worked tirelessly to ensure his idea became reality, and it really was a brilliant night.”
Malcolm added: “The gala evening was a great success, and I would like to thank the team who helped me to organise it and everybody who attended. I couldn’t have done it without them.
“I also feel very humble and proud to receive such a prestigious award from my fellow carnivalites, and I would like to thank all of those who nominated me and voted for me. This award will take pride of place on the mantelpiece at home.”
