Lantern Parade and Fireworks Display launches Bridgwater Carnival activities – (FRIDAY FIREWORKS & FAWKES) – FRIDAY 1 NOVEMBER
The Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival weekend celebrations will start with a bang with a ‘Grand Firework Display’.
Sponsored by Bridgwater Town Council and supported by Sedgemoor District Council for the eight successive year, the curtain raiser event will take place on Friday 1 November at 7.30pm. The glittering fireworks display has proved popular in the past with spectators and has been well supported by people in and around the Sedgemoor area.
The build up to the fireworks display will start at 3pm, as there will be other attractions at St Matthew’s Field to entertain the family, including a handful of fairground rides, kindly provided by the world famous Chipperfield family.
Local school children from St Mary’s Church of England Primary School, Woolavington Village Primary School, Elmwood School, Somerset Bridge Primary School and Bridgwater College Academy will also be getting in on the fun with a special lantern parade before the big display begins at 6.45pm. Leading this parade will be a 15 foot effigy of Guy Fawkes, which has been made out of willow and generously donated by The Somerset Willow Company. It will be ceremoniously lit at the start of the display by Rita Jones, president of Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival, which will signify the official start to the 2013 carnival celebrations.
Dave Stokes, publicity officer for Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival, added: “It is terrific news that Bridgwater Town Council is once again sponsoring this year’s fireworks display, and it will get the town in the mood for what is to come the following night.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Bridgwater Town Council and Sedgemoor District Council for their continued generosity. If it wasn’t for the help we receive from local authorities, organisations and companies, our carnival would not be as popular as it is.”
Skyburst Fireworks will provide and direct the firework performance on the night.
