Bridgwater welcomes tens of thousands of people for Carnival Day, but all those extra folk wondering where to go and what to do can make life confusing.
Last year we introduced our free Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival App to help keep everyone informed about what’s on and where, along with other vital information like where the loos are!
Now the app has had a major upgrade and for the first time is available on both IOS and Android smart phones. It has lots of new features like where to park and a point-and-go interactive map for local facilities, the nearest toilets, cafes and restaurants, a carnival route map and full details of the daytime entertainment programme.
The app is also a valuable tool all year round with access to the latest carnival news and event details once they are confirmed.
The Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival is entirely run by volunteers – those who build the amazing parade carts and those who organise the show. It is a year-round process and development of the Carnival App has been made possible through a collaboration between the Carnival Committee and Bridgwater and Taunton College.
Computer Science degree student Ben Hooper (pictured Below) has been largely responsible for creation and continued development of the app through a work experience placement with the Carnival Committee. Ben’s app development was the focus for his final dissertation, and he has hopes for good grades. ‘I’ve really enjoyed the project’ said Ben ‘It’s been brilliant work experience. The carnival team are fun to be with and very helpful. I’m now looking forward to seeing the upgrade go public.’
Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival Publicity Director John Jacques said: “Development of the Carnival App has been a highly successful collaboration with the College, and we are delighted with the result. The app is a great tool for helping visitors to navigate where to go and what to do during the full programme of events on our carnival day. It is also an avenue for keeping up to date with the latest carnival news all year round”.
Bridgwater Carnival President Dave Creedy added: “This continuing app development project is providing us with a vital and much-appreciated injection of student expertise which bodes well for the future of carnival and also highlights the talented young people we have within our local community.”
Two more students are now involved with the Carnival App maintenance and development, making sure it will continue to blossom as a vital information tool and a great place to find out about all things carnival. Download yours now!
