- Over 600 performers will take part in the four hour show which is held for 12 nights.
- During the 12 nights, the stage will be in use for performances for a total of 48 hours. Throughout the period, each club and dance troupe will perform on stage for 102 minutes (1 hours and 42 minutes).
- 142 different song titles will be sung every night at the carnival concert.
- The youngest person in the show is Mai Williams from Sally Williams Dancers, who is just 2 years and 2 months old. The oldest performer is 79 year old Alan Culverwell who is on stage for Wills CC. Joining Alan on stage will be two other generations of his family – his daughter Suzanne and his granddaughter Kirsty.
- 2016 celebrates the 122nd anniversary of the carnival concerts (this is the amount of years the concerts have actually been staged, as none were performed during the war years).
- The first ever carnival concert took place in 1883, and admission prices ranged from 1 shilling to 6d.
- During last year’s carnival concerts, our catering team of 20 people who are based in the charter hall, sold:- 7,000 penny children sweets, 1,000 hot drinks, 936 cold drinks (bottles and cans), 336 filled rolls, 400 large bags of sweets, 400 ice creams, 330 pasties and 360 bags of crisps.
- In the early years the town hall would accommodate up to 1,500 people in the audience, seated and standing at the back of the hall and balconies. Due to health and safety restrictions, the capacity of the town hall has been reduced to 390 people (all seated).
- There are 186 children performing on stage during this year’s concerts either as part of a front of curtain act, dance troupe of carnival club.
- This is the 30thyear that the Bert Snook Rose Bowl (presented for the best under 17 year old front of curtain act) has been presented at the carnival concerts.
- 2016 sees Renegades CC celebrating 50 years in carnival. To mark the occasion the club has exactly 50 people on stage, including Sally Williams, who is making her debut on stage for Renegades CC after 29 years in the club.
- Talking about the big five 0, our congratulations and best wishes go to Chunky Dunster who this year celebrates his 50th year on stage for Marketeers CC. Here’s to that 60th year Chunky in ten years time.
- The stage set for British Flag CC’s 2016 stage show was built in just 15 days (the club had limited time primarily due to the extra work involved with taking their shed down and moving it and their belongings into storage). 3 dress makers from the club have made over 30 costumes this year and have been working on them for 6 months. The club have been rehearsing since the 1 April, and have held 25 rehearsals totalling between 70 and 80 hours.
- The carnival costumes and props used by Renegades CC for their stage show this year involved over 150 hours of hand sewing.
- Gremlins CC’s 2016 stage show is just 8 minutes and 27 seconds long, however it has taken approximately 2,400 hours to produce (equivalent to 100 days). As far as we are aware, this is also the 1st time this particular theme has been portrayed by a carnival club at the carnival concerts.
